A Candy Land-styled level in Lemmings Touch featuring a switch.

A switch (also known as a switch terminal) is an interactive object that appears in various levels of Lemmings Revolution and Lemmings Touch. Switches have no collision, and trigger objects in remote areas of the level when approached by a walking Lemming.

Quotes[]

Switches, unsurprisingly, switch objects on or off. This could be beneficial or disastrous... You decide. - Lemmings Revolution manual description

Appearances and animation[]

In Lemmings Revolution, Switches appear as levers about as tall as the Lemmings themselves. They have gray bases, which have a semicircle-shaped center with bolts along its edge. Their handles end with a brown ball.

In Lemmings Touch, switches resemble control decks, with a rectangular screen at their top, a panel below it, and a pole holding both components above the ground. Switches in Space-styled levels are made of a gray metal, while switches in Candy Land-styled levels appear to be made of an orange rubber. When a Lemming enters either type of switch, it is turned to face away from the game screen, revealing a large circular button on its back.

Function[]

Lemmings Revolution[]

Switches can be flipped left or right, depending on the direction in which a Lemming or Weasel walks past it. A switch will only change position in response to a walking Lemming or Weasel if its handle is facing towards the entity who passes by it.

Switches can trigger different actions in a level, such as draining a tank of its liquids or revealing a retractable platform. Some switches are designed to activate undesirable level features; it is possible to build over switches so that Lemmings avoid activating them.

Lemmings Touch[]

Switches are always remotely connected to doors, which turn Lemmings away until they are opened by a connected switch. When a Lemming walks past a switch's center, it automatically enters the switch, being removed from the level as a consequence. After this, the switch reveals a button - red, green, or blue - which will open or close a similarly colored door anytime it is pressed. The switch remains available to use for the level's remaining duration.

A door can either be closed or open by default. Doors cannot be destroyed by Lemmings. If a door is closed while a Lemming is beneath it, the Lemming will be crushed. Some doors can be of two colors; when a switch of either color is turned on, the door is made active; when switches of both colors are turned on, the door is made inactive, as if no switch were activated.
