Last one out is a rotten egg! is the eighth level of the Mayhem difficulty in Lemmings. It is also the eighteenth level of the Hard difficulty in Lemmings Touch.
Strategy[]
Assign a Blocker to the first Lemming as soon as it lands. Assign a Builder to a Lemming at the platform's right edge, then assign a Blocker to the Lemming behind it. Keep assigning Builder skills to the Builder each time it runs out of stairs, until it runs into a one-way block. Assign a Climber to the Builder, then assign a Digger skill to it when it is on the right edge of the one-way block.
Assign a Builder to the Digger two times so that it reaches the right wall and turns around. Assign a Miner to the Builder once it is directly next to the one-way block again. The Miner's tunnel must end directly above the staircase on the one-way block's left side, to ensure it automatically stops, but other Lemmings can still walk into it. Several retries might be needed to ensure the two points align exactly.
Let the Climber turn right, then an Exploder to the right Blocker to free the Lemmings. Assign a Digger to the Climber when it is at the tunnel's right side. After it has dug halfway through, assign a Builder to the Digger, then assign a Miner to it as soon as it turns around. This ensures all Lemmings can safely fall inside. After they reach the Exit, assign an Exploder to, or Nuke, the left Blocker if necessary.
100% Strategy[]
Assign a Digger to the first Lemming in the starting platform's right half to contain most Lemmings without Blockers, then assign a Builder to it to stop it. One Lemming still passes this pit; assign Builders to this Lemming to let it reach the one-way block as above. Let this Lemming turn left after hitting the wall to mingle in the pit. Assign Climbers to three Lemmings who are facing right.
Assign a Digger to one Climber through the one-way block just above the facade. Assign a Builder to this Climber to stop it and make it turn left. Assign a Digger to the second Climber some distance to the right; it will exit the one-way block and walk directly to the Exit. Assign a Climber to a third Climber on the wall between each hole from the first two Diggers; it will stop itself on the steel, then walk to the Exit.
In the meantime, Climber #1 will have climbed backed out of the pit facing left – assign a Miner and Builder to it to turn it back. The platform below the entrance is just thick enough to create a bona fide turn around tunnel. Assign Builders to right-facing Lemmings inside the pit to free them.
Variations:
- These steps can be easily done simultaneously, there is enough time to even omit the third Climber and reuse #1 for the third dig.
- Stretching your first staircase allows you to just reach the "one way" block with your initial builder. If you manage this, you can make him your first Climber without risk of turning left.
- You can dig the rightmost shaft first, then the middle second and only remove the facade last. In this case using builder to stop the left most dig will create a stair blocking your new way to the exit, but you can dig or mine into this, never having a Lemming walk left. It is difficult to control the release direction of the pit, though, and downright impossible to stop them if the come out facing left without a pre-made turn around.
- A left walking Climber can release the accumulated Lemmings by mining away the rightmost corner of the pit.
Version differences[]
- Atari Lynx
- Was renamed "Last Out"
- Only has 40 Lemmings, and 36 must be saved.
- The left-hand side of the starting platform does not need to be blocked off.
- The starting platform is too thin to use a Bomber, so the Blocker will need to be built over.
- The wall is not one-way.
- Macintosh and Microsoft Windows
- Only has 80 Lemmings, and 72 must be saved.
- In Monochrome mode, the arrows are not animated, but they are in Color mode.
- 2006 Remake
- 7 minute time limit.
