The instruction set management window which pops up at the beginning of levels

Instructions are commands assigned to tiles in Lemmings: The Puzzle Adventure. Following the tile-based mobile game design, skills are not directly assigned to a Lemming but are instead assigned to a tile for one or more Lemmings to execute upon reaching the tile that contains the command.

Only 5 instructions (6 if the Rocket instruction is purchased) can be brought and used in a level, with the instruction set managed at the start of a level through a pop-up management window.

Overview[]

Further instructions are unlocked by reaching certain XP levels. However, some of these advanced instructions (termed as VIP instructions) are only usable with an active VIP Pass.

Base Instructions[]

The following instructions are available from the start of the game and generally cost at least 1 energy to assign aside from Destroy which costs nothing.

Dig[]

DigInstruction

Dig can be assigned to any destructible block, allowing the first Lemming to reach the block to excavate it.

  • Dig costs 1 energy to assign
  • Dig combines the Digger and Basher skills from previous Lemmings games
    • If the block to excavate is reached from the side then the Lemming becomes a Basher and digs side-wards
    • If the block to excavate is reached from the top then the Lemming becomes a Digger and digs downwards
  • Bashers pause for a short while after completing an excavation, allowing for another instruction to be quickly placed where the excavated block once was
  • Digging downwards can be used to change a Lemming's direction

Stairs[]

StairsInstruction

Stairs is an instruction that transforms a Lemming into a Builder that stacks 9 bricks upwards across the diagonal of a tile, forming a staircase to higher places. It can be placed on any empty space and is only carried out by the first Lemming to reach the instruction.

  • Stairs cost 1 energy to assign
  • Stairs cannot be built directly below any blocks, traps, or structures that act as a ceiling
  • Builders pause for a short while after completing the Stairs
  • Stairs can be linked with others Stairs or Bridges to form complex structures and the instructions can be linked together in a manner that does not give the Builder any time to pause
  • Stairs can be used to change the direction of a Lemming
  • Both ends of a staircase cause a slight protrusion to neighboring tiles which may unexpectedly bring traps within reach of Lemmings
  • A completed staircase may only be destroyed by explosions, either caused by the Destroy or Dynamite instructions or by Explosive block traps
  • A completed staircase can withstand any amount of Falling debris
  • Stairs reflect lasers
  • Stairs can break the fall of Lemmings, helping them survive falls less than 3 tiles high
  • Lemmings can fall through the steps of a staircase, a returning bug observed within the game

Umbrella[]

UmbrellaInstruction

Umbrella is an instruction to slow down the descent of a falling Lemming by means of an open umbrella which acts as a parachute. It can be placed on any empty space at least 1 tile above ground and is performed by any Lemming that reaches the instruction.

  • Umbrella costs 1 energy to assign
  • Umbrella saves Lemmings from dying when falling at a height of 3 tiles or more
  • Umbrella, when placed directly in front of a cliff, will help Lemmings to drop off nearer the edge of the tile- an essential trick to help dodge traps and to help solve some higher levels of the game
  • Umbrella replaces the Floater skill from the previous Lemmings games which made use of parasols

Block[]

BlockInstruction

Block is an instruction for a Lemming to become a Blocker, forcing all other Lemmings who make contact to turn around. It can be placed on any empty space over the ground or in any Lemming-built structure and is only performed by the first Lemming to reach the instruction.

  • Block costs 1 energy to assign
  • Blockers can be reverted into Walkers by tapping on the Blocker and making it go left or right
  • Block can be placed in advance and while a staircase is being built to isolate the Builder
  • When used on top of Stairs, Blocks may not always position the Blocker dead-center of the staircase (5th brick) and may instead place the Blocker 1 tile off the center
  • When used on top of Stairs, Lemmings past a certain point will simply ignore the instruction to Block and keep marching
  • Blockers revert to Walkers as soon as the ground they stand on disappears, resuming to march towards their original direction prior to becoming a Blocker

Destroy[]

DestroyInstruction

Destroy is an instruction to remove any Lemming-built structure by means of a Lemming detonating itself, transforming the Lemming into a Bomber-Blocker. It can only be placed on top of staircases and is carried out by the first Lemming to reach the instruction.

  • Destroy costs no energy to use
  • Destroy can be cancelled at any point within the 5-second countdown before detonation by reverting the Bomber-Blocker back into a Walker
  • Destroy can be used to change the direction of a Lemming at no additional energy cost or can be used as a free alternative to Block
  • Destroy replaces the Bomber skill (also known as the Detonator skill) from early Lemmings games

Advanced Instructions[]

The following instruction are only available by progressing through the XP System.

Glide[]

GlideInstruction

The Glide instruction turns Lemmings into Hang Gliders, allowing them to move across tiles mid-air, sailing at a downward incline. It can be placed on any empty space at least 1 tile above ground and is performed by any Lemming that reaches and activates the instruction.

  • Glide costs 2 energy to assign and is unlocked at XP level 4
  • Glide sends the gliders toward the direction the Glide icon points to but it cannot be pointed towards any solid block or wall directly beside the icon
  • Hang Gliders will begin to fall after crossing a tile
  • Multiple Glide instructions can be linked together to cover longer distances
  • Glide can only be activated by dropping near the center or towards the tail end of the Glide instruction icon
    • The slight protrusion produced by the edges of Stairs will give Lemmings enough distance to activate the Hang Glider
    • Dropping from the edges of a block towards the pointed tip of the Glide icon may not activate the Hang Glider

Musician[]

MusicianInstruction

The Musician instruction allows a Lemming to play a musical instrument, becoming an Attractor that gathers all Lemmings passing by into the same tile as the musician. It can be placed on any empty space over the ground or in any Lemming-built structure.

  • Musician costs 2 energy to assign and is unlocked at XP level 21
  • The Attractor can be reverted back into a Walker, after which all gathered Lemmings will march in the same direction as the ex-musician
  • Using multiple Musicians in a level will produce Attractors that each play different musical instruments

Dynamite[]

DynamiteInstruction

The Dynamite is an instruction for a Lemming to drop a bundle of dynamite sticks which will detonate after a 5 second countdown. It can be placed on any empty space over the ground, over holes or edges, or in any Lemming-built structure.

BalloonInstruction

Balloon sends Lemmings flying 2 tiles up in the air, temporarily turning them into Ballooners for the duration of the flight. It can be placed on any empty space and is performed by any Lemming that reaches the instruction.

  • Balloon costs 2 energy to assign and is unlocked at XP level 8 provided that the player has an active VIP Pass
  • Balloons can be linked together to reach even higher tiles
  • Balloons can be used with Glide to allow for both vertical and horizontal movement

Bridge[]

BridgeInstruction

Bridge is an instruction that allows a Lemming to roll out a Magic Bridge in-between 2 tiles. It can be placed on any empty space and is only carried out by the first Lemming to reach the instruction.

  • Bridge costs 3 energy to assign and is unlocked at XP level 15 provided that the player has an active VIP Pass
  • Bridges and Stairs can be linked together to create complex structures
  • Bridge can be used over water traps

The following instruction are only available via in-app purchases using real-world currency.

Rocket[]

RocketInstruction
This article is about the instruction. For other uses, see Rocket (disambiguation).

Rocket can be assigned to any empty tile above ground, in stairs, and in bridges, allowing the first Lemming to reach the instruction to fire several rockets upwards, damaging and destroying the destructible blocks in the rockets' path.

  • Rocket costs 5 energy to assign and is unlocked via a 3 USD (approximately) in-app purchase

Notes[]

  • At later levels, it becomes impossible to save all Lemmings (a frequent requirement to complete the level) without having the proper set of instructions.
