If at first you don't succeed.. is the first level of the Taxing difficulty in Lemmings. It is also the tenth level of the Tricky difficulty of Lemmings Touch, where it is named "If at first you don't succeed...".
If at first you don't succeed.. is also the third of the four levels in the PC demo, following This should be a doddle! and preceding And then there were four.....
Strategy[]
Assign a Climber and a Floater to the first Lemming who comes out, and let it scale all three pillars. Set the release rate to its maximum setting. Once it does, assign a Miner to any other Lemming who is facing right and is beside the stairs. Once this Miner is beneath the pillars, assign a Basher to it.
Assign a Builder to the Athlete once it is at the floor's edge; assign Builders to it each time it runs out of stairs above the gap. After the Builder reaches the other floor, assign a Builder to it on top of the broken staircase, to cover the Chain Trap below. Once it is done, all Lemmings will be able to reach the Exit.
Macintosh strategy[]
Because the Macintosh version has a slower clock, a similar solution can be used without so many Lemmings wandering everywhere.
Assign a Blocker to the second Lemming near the edge of the bricks so that it contains all other Lemmings, then raise the release rate to 99. Assign a Basher to the first Lemming when it faces the first pillar. When it is at the bottom of the stairs connecting the first and second pillars, assign a Digger to it; when it is beneath the remaining pillars, assign a Basher to it, and ensure there is no ground above its head.
Once the Basher has cleared all pillars and their stairs, assign a Builder to it to make it stop bashing. It if turns around, assign a Builder to it again underneath the pillar so that it turns back. Assign a Builder to the Lemming at the edge of the floor; repeat this for the next three times it runs out of stairs. Once it comes across, assign an Exploder to the Blocker. Assign a Builder to the first Lemming when it is on top of the broken stairs. Once it is done, the other Lemmings will catch up.
ZX Spectrum strategy[]
Build over the hole in the ground with the first two Lemmings. The third Lemming will make it across safely if you start from the edge, but have the first Lemming build a second time to completely seal the hole as it collides with the stairs. Next, have the first Lemming in line bash through the two pillars. Finally, have the first Lemming in line build over the hole in the stairs to reach the exit, and use your remaining builder skills to stall any Lemming that approaches it before the hole is repaired. Raise the release rate to 99.
