Down and out is the second level of the Taxing difficulty in Lemmings (PS3).

This level requires the full version of Lemmings to be played. Aside from this constraint, it is unlocked from the start.

Strategy[]

There are two Entrance portals at each side of the level. Both spawn Lemmings that begin by walking towards the center of the level. The object on which they appear is a long, rectangular block of destructible machine material. The block has indestructible squares at each of its four corners. At its top, there is a spinning saw trap seated atop another indestructible block that is buried within in the material. At either side of the trap lies a Teleporter: a green one at the left, and a red one at the right.

The green Teleporter takes Lemmings to a smaller hollow box at the bottom left corner of the level. This box has the Exit portal. The red Teleporter takes Lemmings to another similar box at the bottom right corner. This box has a spinning saw trap. The two boxes are connected to the larger box by a pair of thin destructible pipes, which have indestructible parts at their bottoms.

Make the fifth Lemming to spawn at the left side into a Digger when it is directly above the left pipe. To ensure the Lemmings at the right do not walk into the red Teleporter, assign a Miner to the first of them once its mining path would no longer be under the Entrance. Ensure the Miner runs into the top center indestructible block to prevent it from entering the Diggerā€™s path.

Once the Digger has made it 2/3 into the machine material, assign a Digger to whichever Lemming at the right side is closest to the block. Assign a Miner to the Lemming that is digging through the left pipe once it is halfway through the pipe. The Lemming at the left will walk right again; assign a Digger and Floater to that Lemming so it can break through to reach the Exit without falling to its death.

Assign the Builder to the Floater once it is turns to face left. Assign a Miner to the Digger Lemming so that it can reach the hole that was dug by the other Lemming. All Lemmings will safely fall through the pipe and land on the staircase, and will have reached the Exit. Two Climbers, three Diggers, and three Miners will be left over.
