Down, along, up. In that order is the fifth level of the Mayhem difficulty in Lemmings. It is also the twenty-sixth level of the Hard difficulty in Lemmings Touch.
Strategy[]
First, assign a Climber and a Floater to any Lemming facing left. It will walk along a long floor. While it walks, assign a Digger to any other Lemming on the topmost shelf's right end, then assign another Digger to any Lemming at the second shelf's center. Assign a Builder skill to the Athlete once it is ahead of a floating platform. Assign a Blocker to the Athlete when it reaches this platform's left edge.
Assign a Basher to any Lemming facing the third shelf's left wall to release all accumulated Lemmings. Assign a Blocker to any Lemming immediately after it lands. Assign a Builder skill to another Lemming at the platform's center. Ensure it hits the Blocker and turns around, while continuing to build. The Builder will reach a second floating platform; assign a Blocker to it at this platform's right edge. Assign a Builder to any Lemming who is at the platform's center, facing right.
It will reach a third platform; assign a Blocker to it at this platform's left edge. Assign a Builder to a Lemming on this platform's center who is facing left. This Lemming will reach one more platform; assign a Blocker to it, then assign a Builder to a Lemming at this platform's center. All walking Lemmings will reach the Exit. If necessary, assign Exploders to, or Nuke, the Blockers.
Variations[]
- Lemmings can also be released facing left by applying Dig at the utmost left of a shelve, thus breaking the thin vertical lines.
- Digging through the 1st shelf on the right, the 2nd in the center an 3rd on the right allows newly released lemmings to leave the 3rd shelf to any opening on the left even after accumlated lemmings have left the 3rd shelf on the right to wait on the 4th shelf.
- Timing the building relies less on luck when Lemmings are not clustered together. A combination of #1 and #2 will have the final three Lemmings walk separately towards the left for the final staircase. There are just enough Diggers for both tricks.
- When using the scaling function of later re-releases, the Blockers will turn Builders around on the very tip of their outstretched arm when coming from the left but on the Blockers centerline when approaching from the right, necessitating differing amounts of space for the stairs.
Version differences[]
- Atari Lynx
- Was renamed to "Down Along Up".
- Only has 40 Lemmings, and 30 must be saved.
- There are only three platforms between the ground and the exit.
- 2006 Remake
- 7 minute time limit.
- 2006 Remake and Lemmings Touch
- Floating platforms are wider; Builders must be assigned after Lemmings hit Blockers to reach higher platforms.
